Anglo American is a participant in a number of international initiatives designed to support sustainable development and improve governance.
Chief amongst these are:
- The UN Global Compact
- The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
- The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
Anglo American is also a participant in a number of other industry and multi-stakeholder groups intended to promote sustainable development practices. Internationally, these include the International Council on Mining and Metals, the World Business Council on Sustainable Development, the International Business Leaders Forum, the Global Business Council on HIV and AIDS, the Global Reporting Initiative and the Global Corporate Citizenship Initiative of the World Economic Forum. Within the United Kingdom, Anglo American is a member of Business in the Community and the London Benchmarking Group (on corporate social investment). Within South Africa it is a leading participant, inter alia, in the Business Trust and Business Against Crime.
